Puzzle practice for your classroom
Bring a little variety to practice time with French or Spanish bilingual crosswords and ASL alphabet puzzles. Choose a page for independent work, a learning station or a quiet classroom activity.
Each book includes 100 puzzles and answers. Print the pages you need, or let students type into the PDF using a compatible app.
French and Spanish books also include word audio. Scan the QR code to open the listening page, then tap a word to hear it aloud. The voice depends on your device. Hands & Hoots focuses on reading the ASL alphabet and does not include spoken word audio.
Playing on a phone
Browser play and the fillable PDF are two different ways to use a book. Every book comes with a private play link, printed inside your PDF. Open that link in your phone’s browser, with no app to install. Your progress is saved on the device you play on. Keep your link so you can return to the book.
To use the PDF instead, open it in a compatible PDF app, or print the pages you need.
Try ASL alphabet puzzles
Hands & Hoots helps kids practise reading the American Sign Language (ASL) alphabet, also called fingerspelling. Read the illustrated hands from left to right to spell each word. An alphabet chart is at the bottom of every puzzle page, and answers are at the back. These are alphabet practice books, not a full ASL course.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can French- or Spanish-speaking kids use these books to learn English?
Absolutely! The bilingual crosswords include puzzles from French or Spanish to English, the instructions are provided in both languages, and the answers show every word in both languages.
This makes Lingowinks a great fit for newcomer families, ESL classrooms and bilingual households.
Please note: Word audio is provided for French and Spanish words, not English words.
Can I share the PDFs with colleagues?
A Classroom Licence covers one teacher and one classroom. Each additional teacher or classroom needs its own licence. Please check the product listing before purchasing.
Can my school buy a school-wide licence?
Please email [email protected] to ask about options for your school.
How does the fillable PDF work?
Download the PDF and open it in an app that supports fillable forms, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Tap or click a square and type your answer. Save a copy, then reopen it to check that your answers were saved. If typing does not work in your browser, try a compatible PDF app. You can also print the puzzles and use a pencil.
Can students use them on tablets or laptops?
Students can type into the PDF using a compatible app on a tablet or computer, or use a printed copy. On a phone, the easiest way to play is in the browser, using the private play link inside each book. See Playing on a phone.
Do you use Canadian French or European French?
Canadian French. The books use Canadian English and French vocabulary.
Is the Spanish suitable for learners in different countries?
Yes. The books use common Latin American Spanish, such as jugo, carro and computadora. Most of the vocabulary is understood across the Spanish-speaking world.
Do the books include word audio?
Yes. Every French and Spanish book has a free listening page where you can hear each French or Spanish word, one at a time or all in a row, at normal or slow speed. Find the 🔊 link under each book on the Books page, or try Farmyard Fun. Audio works on most phones, tablets and computers with an internet connection. The voice depends on your device. If your device doesn’t have a French or Spanish voice, try another browser or device.
Are the activities suitable for beginners?
Our books are designed for different ages and levels of experience. If your students are just starting to learn French or Spanish, peek inside first: the Mots & Mischief and Palabras & Pranks pages show real puzzle pages to help you find a good starting point.
